Met up with Augusta Bird Club members Ed and Nancy L., and Walt and Nancy C. at 8:30 a.m. at the kiosk. A Pileated Woodpecker greeted us with a fly over. We soon met Monticello Bird Club members Jenny G. and Lois G. on the trail who joined my guided bird walk. We spent 3 hours hiking the downstream and Glenthorne Loop trails, and logged 33 species.
We had two "unknown warblers" that I later identifed from processed photos as a first year female Baltimore Oriole, and the other as first fall female Chestnut-sided Warbler. We also saw a Broad-winged Hawk. There were a couple of large Turkey and Black Vulture kettles, and I told the group to see if our resident tail-less Turkey Vulture was in the group, and sure enough it was. When we finished at 11:30, another birder couple had just arrived for their first time on the trail.
