Stoney Creek (Wintergreen) 2/17/2011

I went for an early afternoon hike today here in Stoney Creek, not expecting to see too many birds this time of day. Although there were not a lot of birds, I did manage to see 21 species in a little more than 1-1/2 hours. The most interesting one was a Winter Wren that I saw near the western boardwalk in the Allen Creek Nature Preserve. This is only the second time that I have photographed a Winter Wren, and the first time was last winter in almost the exact same location. I also saw an unusual male House Finch - not enough crimson to be a Purple Finch, but more red on it than usual, especially on its nape and part way down its back. I wonder if the House and Purple Finches interbreed?
