Alice and I hiked the upstream trail late this morning. Not too much to see, but a juvenile Tree Swallow let us get very close.

I did a short, late afternoon hike to the Allen Creek Nature Preserve. As I approached Lake Monocan from the Sawmill Creek pond # 3 dam, a pair of Kingfishers flew from above my head. The male flew off into the trees across the lake, and the female followed, but perchered on a railing where I could get a few photos. There were several Red-winged Blackbirds, Bluebirds, Indigo Buntings, and Cardinals. In the nature preserve, I photographed an immature male Cardinal just starting to gets its red adult plumage and red bill.
