Clear skies with temperatures in the 30s and a brisk north-westerly wind in advance of an Arctic cold front kept many birds hunkered down this morning. I only logged 16 species between 9:00 and 10:30, but soon after I got home, Tim H. called from the trail to say that he saw a Red-headed Woodpecker on the upstream trail. He reminded me that today was the area CBC, so I have added the number of each species that I remember seeeing on this morning's hike.
Carolina Wren
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-shouldered Hawk
