Stoney Creek (Wintergreen) 3/16/12

I did a short hike between bands of dark clouds this morning. Although I only logged 16 species, I did observe an avian activity for the first time. I often see woodpeckers excavating a tree cavity to make a nest, but this morning I saw a Carolina Chickadee making its nest cavity. Now that I know where one is, I plan to check it every once in a while to look for little ones.
