Yesterday, I read on the birding listservers that James Fox had seen a Harris's Sparrow in Page County, VA, just north of the boat ramp on Kauffman's Mill Road. This was a terrific find, as this was only the 19th bird and 15th record of this species ever recorded in Virginia (one record had five birds). This would also be my 667th life bird, if I could find it. I called Walt Childs and we made the 79 mile drive to look for it. We parked at the boat ramp, and in less than five minutes, found the Harris's Sparrow.

We continued birding in that area, and on the way back, and ended up with about 30 avian species, including 3 Northern Harriers, 3 Red-shouldered hawks, 4 Red-tailed Hawks, and 4 American Kestrels.
