Lickinghole Creek Reservoir; Crozet, VA 3/7/18

I had planned to go to Lickinghole Creek and Reservoir this morning, but as soon as I left my house, it started to drizzle, so I returned home. I tried again early this afternoon with a forecast of no rain and mostly sunny skies. It was still rather windy and not very many birds were out. When I got to the reservoir, I saw 14 Hooded Mergansers and 1 Pied-billed Grebe in the reservoir.

I also wanted to check out the Bald Eagle nest to see if it had been damaged in last Friday's high wind. I saw both of the eagles, but it looks like part of the nest had been damaged.

I hope that they re-build the nest and didn't lose any eggs. When I got to the farthest point on the trail from my car, light rain started. Glad that I thought to bring my camera rain cover along, and I hiked back with seeing at most, a dozen species.
