It was quite chilly this morning, but also mostly sunny, so I hiked quite a bit here in Old Trail. I ended up with 32 avian species, and that didn't include 10+ fairly common winter species that I often see here but did not see today. Guess I don't have to drive long distances to see common winter species, along with a few that aren't so common here. I hadn't been on a good portion of the Lindy Bain trail for about a month, and some of this trail on the west side of Old Trail drive has been re-done and moved about 40 to 50 feet to the south, and therefore, much closer to the small creek there. This should prove to make for better birding on that section of the trail, but as the tree cutting and gravel path were recently done there, most of the birds seen in that area had moved away, at least for now.

I started off at the pond behind the Lodge, and saw one female Bufflehead. I had seen four there three days ago.

I then moved down to that end of Western Park (wetlands), and immediately saw a juvenile Cooper's Hawk.

Farther to the north in the park, I saw one of our resident Red-shouldered Hawks.

The crows were in a bad mood today. They were even chasing the Turkey Vultures.

By the time I left the park area, I was already up to 26 avian species for the day. I did some more hiking near the golf course pond and down the south side of the Lindy Bain trail. I ended up with five woodpecker and nine sparrow species.
