Old Trail

What a difference one day makes! I hiked here in Old Trail during the early afternoon, and didn't see a single duck. Even the resident Canada Geese were not to be seen. But I did end up with 23 avian species.

I did see an interesting Dark-eyed Junco. Almost certainly the common slate-colored sub-species, but almost looks like it could be an Oregon sub-species.

The juvenile Cooper's Hawk was still in Western Park.

While in Western Park, I saw flying juvenile and one of the adult Red-shouldered Hawks, but had seen both of the adult Red-shouldered Hawks near the golf course. The female was perched in a tree, and starting calling for the male. The male called back, flew in, and mated with her.

Although I don't like feral cats, I saw one in Western Park today at 2 p.m. It must have had a rough night last night.
