I went back to the Lickinghole Creek and Basin/Crozet Connector Trail to look for the Northern Flicker with red feathers. With temperatures in the low 40s, it was more comfortable than two days ago, but now the icy trails had melted and were quite muddy. Also, there were more "walker-talkers" on the trail. I never understand how parents can let their small children scream as loud as possible for minutes on end, and not think that they might be disturbing others. I did my best to get away from all the commotion, and ended up with 24 avian species.
Carolina Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Red-shouldered Hawk
Killdeer
Wilson's Snipe
I saw four woodpecker species, but no Flickers, and got a few photos of all of them except a Red-bellied Woodpecker. I most enjoyed the interactions between a juvenile and an adult female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
