Rockfish Valley Trail, VA 4/22/2022

Although Alice and I moved from the Rockfish Valley almost six years ago, I still go back to the Nellysford Barbershop for haircuts, and we still donate our no longer wanted clothing and household items to the thrift shop there. I had both stops to make, so I went over to the Rockfish Valley Trail after my haircut for a late morning hike. I was the birding activity manager at this trail for more than five years, and even with changes to the trail and adjacent properties, I still have a good idea where best to look for birds there. I ended up with 26 avian species, including 3 warbler species. Louisiana Waterthrush and American Redstart were new 2022 warbler species for me.

I saw several Common Yellowthroats. One of the females looked a bit odd with a dark throat and dark malars, but I suspect that it was just molting some feathers.
